The first publication of two elaborate book dummies or grimoires by Spare which he produced during the years 1905 and 1906. Each consists of more than twenty finely-drawn pen, ink and watercolour images, in some cases accompanied by brief captions. Internal evidence suggests that they were intended for publication, but were never completed. The publication of these is here accompanied by two finished pictures by Spare from the same period, incorporating elements from the grimoires. Augmenting the grimoires are an Introduction by Michael Staley and two illustrated essays of commentary and preliminary analysis by William Wallace and Stephen Pochin.

Hardbound in blue cloth with a metallic red Eye of Horus symbol and title to the front board, and black and gilt titles to the spine. 9.75” x 6.75”, 439 pages total including colour portrait of Crowley by Leon Engers Kennedy, and colour reproduction of Crowley's painting May Morn, plus 5 black and white plates.

CONDITION
Clean, unmarked text pages, firm binding, cloth of spine slightly darkened, light shelf wear to spine ends and corners, foxing to edges of text block, owner’s name in greyish ink to upper corner of front endpaper – in all a very good copy of this facsimile reprint of one of the most important volumes of Crowley's legendary Equinox series.

Published by Samuel Weiser, Inc., New York, NY, 1974 - Second Printing of the Weiser edition published in 1972 as a facsimile of the ten original numbers issued between 1909 and 1913, with a new introduction by Israel Regardie.

Complete in ten large volumes (7” x 9.8”), roughly 4,500 pages including plates and front matter, bound in the original cream-white cloth with the Equinox coat of arms and banner printed in colour to the front boards, green titles and volume numbers to the spines over black.

CONDITION: Clean unmarked text pages throughout, all volumes with firm binding, tanning and dust soiling to covers (more so to spines), slight bumping to upper and lower spine of most volumes, foxing to edges of text blocks, some rubbing to titles of spines, owner’s name in green ink on upper corners of front endpapers – in all a very good set of this magnificent reprint of Crowley's magnum opus.
